Cancer is a very harsh disease that affects millions of people a year. With the rising cases of cancer diagnoses, there tend to be a lot of side effects. Not only physical ones but ones that deeply affect one's mental stability. As reported in an academic article written by the American Cancer Society, 1 in 4 cancer patients tend to feel not supported, anxious, and depressed throughout the process of their diagnosis. This can lead to the worsening of one’s diagnosis ultimately being life-threatening. Although organizations are out available to the community that have resources such as assistance with transportation, food, employment, and housing, the platform to connect and create a channel of support is lacking within our communities. The study of the resources to remedy the effects of such harsh diagnoses and the strengthening of the sociological sector within patients is not present in society. Moreover, this brings one to explore the extent to which supportive resources are available to these individuals. The goal of my original work is to help clear the gap between the support available to such patients and their family members and provide better resources to combat this issue. I will achieve this by creating a website and platform where families and patients diagnosed with cancer can create a support system for each other, ultimately relieving stress and loneliness among themselves.
